Mr. Garibaldi --

I have received a most disturbing message from Ambassador Mollari and my calls to the Centauri homeworld have gone unreceived. I am aboard White Star 8 en route to Babylon 5 and shall be there in two days time. I expect that when I arrive you will have located Mollari and will have a plan in place for his retrieval. If you do not, you will find yourself face to face with a very, very angry Narn. Do not disappoint me.

Anla'shok G'Kar, Citizen of Narn

G'Kar --

Official station security is in charge of the investigation at the moment since it involves an ambassador. However, you can rest assured that I will also be doing everything I can to find Londo. Despite all of the things he's done, I do consider him a friend, and I'm just as worried about him as you are.

We'll find him, G'Kar. Don't worry...

I just heard about Londo.

How can I help?

Vir appears at the entryway just as G'Kar closes his connection. His coat and waistcoat are off courtesy of a failed attempt to sleep, and his fingers are twisted together in a great knot in front of his chest.

Hesitantly:

G'Kar?

If you wish to survive this journey, Vir, I recommend you leave me alone.

G'Kar turns away, making himself very busy shuffling a pile of papers on the workstation in his Diplomat-class stateroom. As Vir watches, G'Kar starts to growl -- the growl turns to a bellow, and G'Kar tears wildly at the papers, flinging handfuls of parchment at the stateroom walls.

Then he wheels around and sees Vir still in the doorway.

GO NOW!

Vir visibly shrinks.

I-I'm sorry. I just- I'm sorry.

Stumbling blindly out of the room, Vir presses his hand against his mouth and, his legs giving way, he slides down the bulkhead until he is sitting on the deck. This is where he stays, his eyes squeezed shut, until a passing Human crew member stops and asks if he is all right.

Vir looks up, his eyes shining, and chokes:

No. No, I'm not all right.

Vir feels himself beginning to crumble.

And I-I-I have to go.

Struggling to his feet, Vir shoulders past the crew member, his head down, and walks swiftly down the corridor.

G'Kar,

I know you're upset, but don't take it out on Vir, the poor guy's had to put up with enough recently and you can be a little big and scary, you know?

Now, regarding that message Londo sent you, can you send me a copy of it? We need to see if we can find any clues in it -- there's all kinds of stuff in Londo's quarters that might have picked up a reflection; maybe we can see what happened...

I have enclosed the message on a coded channel; I pray you are able to find some meaning in it.

[OOC: You should feel free to extrapolate/invent based on the clues, etc. Don't feel restrained by the nature of the mystery -- if there's anything you can deduce or make up, go for it, and I'll either incorporate it into the mystery as it stands, or find convenient ways for it to be disproven later. In other words, just play it out the way Mikey would and make up whatever you want.]

Thanks, G'Kar. Zack and I will see what we can find.

For a long moment, he stands staring at G'Kar's tightly sealed door, searching for the nerve to move and do what he has to do. Then, taking a shuddering breath, he presses the signal.

G'Kar? I need... I-I really need to talk to you. Please open the door.

Vir hears a low rumble of danger on the other side of the door and he adds in a rush, his voice high and strained:

And if you want to scream at me or throw things at me or hit me, that's okay. It wouldn't be the first time that's happened to me.

As the door swishes open, Vir closes his eyes reflexively.

Just speak quickly.

Vir tentatively holds out his right hand. In his palm is a data crystal.

I asked Mr. Garibaldi for all the information station security has found so far. It's not very much- they're still running some analyses- but it's a start. Right?

And, um...

Vir's gaze flickers downward.

Mr. Garibaldi also asked if you had a copy of the message Londo sent you. He-he thinks the camera might've caught a reflection or something that might help us identify who's responsible.

Vir, still avoiding G'Kar's gaze, holds his breath as he waits for G'Kar's response.

Yes, I have already spoken with Mr. Garibaldi and relayed him Mollari's message. Mollari --

G'Kar trails off for a minute, then shakes his head fiercely, snapping to attention.

Mollari obviously cannot take care of himself, so I appreciate any and all assistance Mr. Garibaldi can offer.

Leave that data crystal with me -- and do not disturb me again.

G'Kar, I...

Vir swallows.

I was... you know, the Humans have a saying that "two heads are better than one" and I... well, I was thinking that maybe we should... work together on this.

Vir knows full well that he is pressing his luck. So he stumbles through his plea as quickly as he can, his hands up in a vague placating gesture.

I-I-I know you don't particularly want to be around me right now. And I... I keep reminding myself that it's not really me you're angry with, but... I just can't. I-I'm sorry, I just can't leave it at that.

Tears spring to Vir's eyes, but a strain of desperate stubborness wells inside him and he stands his ground. He's lonely, he's frightened, and G'Kar is the only one on board who comes close to comprehending how he feels about Londo and why it's so important to him that Londo make it back alive.

He won't. He won't go back to the sleeping quarters to stare at the wall, alone. He needs to be with someone- anyone- who understands.

Riding this wave of emotion, Vir bursts:

I'm saying I want to help!

The cry still ringing in the room, Vir's hand flies to his mouth. Great Maker. Did he just...?

In a small voice, he continues:

I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean... I just... I'm scared too. Londo's my best friend. He... he's one of the only ones from my world who's ever cared about what I think or how I feel or even really noticed that I existed. And I-I-I want to work with you to bring him home. Please...

Vir's voice breaks and a tear escapes.

... please let me help.

G'Kar sighs.

Yes. Yes, Vir, I think Mollari would very much appreciate your help. As would I.

And stiffens again.

As would Mr. Garibaldi, I am certain, as he has been on this matter nearly two days, and has yet to acquire any information.

G'Kar's concession is fleeting, but for Vir, it is enough. For most of his life, he has thrived on far less. Seeing hope for the first time since they left Minbar, he hugs G'Kar, pressing his face against the Narn's chest.

Muffled:

Thank you. I promise you, you won't regret it.

And I... I meant what I said before. If you ever need to yell and scream... or if you ever just want company... I'm here. You're my friend too.

Note to citizen G'kar from Kerr Avon, sent via Orac:

Vila told me about the Ambassador's disappearance. I am told I have a tendency to over-think situations, but, for what it's worth, I offer these thoughts.

Has the Ambassador's assistant, Dulcin, been questioned?

Has there been a ransom demand or declaration that the Ambassador has been taken hostage to force some action? If not, it may not be a simple kidnapping.

This package...I suspect it. If the items were necessary to the kidnapping, why were they left behind? And in burgundy silk wrapping... is it possible the abductors have a sick sense of humour and this package is a 'red herring'? If so they are either of Earth origin, or familiar with Terran idiom.

I am unfamiliar with the device? that was used to transport myself across dimensions/time to attend the Ambassador's fashion show. Is it possible this 'Great Machine' or something with similar abilities could have been used to abduct him? If so, would it leave any discernable energy traces that could be scanned for in his quarters?

Perhaps you should look at the results of this disappearance, and see who benefits from what actually did happen. The station has been locked down, and you, G'Kar, are returning, when, from what little I gather, you had not intended to do so- at least not in the immediate future. Has the disappearance precipitated anything which is of obvious benefit to an individual or specific group?

If there is any way I may assist, please let me know.
(I have sent a copy to the investigating officer, Garibaldi, as well. I do not entirely trust Orac's abilities to send a message across dimensions, so duplication appeared a sensible precaution.)
